Last night’s London Coliseum paved way to fashion’s finest for one of the most exciting, prestigious and well-dressed events of the year. Encapsulating the finest in the expansive pool of British creative talent, the British Fashion Awards returned for its 26th year.
Over 2,000 guests gathered to join in the celebrations and witness seventeen Swarovski Crystal Trophies (weighing a whopping 15kg each) being presented to the seventeen worthy winners. Myself and Anusha attended the awards for Seen in the City, and after some major fashion-lusting on the red-carpet, were shown to our seats.
The atmosphere was well and truly buzzing with a star studded myriad of guests in attendance; including David & Victoria Beckham, Karlie Kloss, Kate Bosworth, Lady Gaga, Cheryl Fernandez-Fersini, Poppy Delevigne and Karl Lagerfield.
Jack Whitehall presented the evening, his wit, charm and demeanor a real highlight, encapsulating the eccentric, weird and undoubtedly wonderful world of fashion we so know and love. A powerful tribute to Paris commenced the awards, the love and support from our capital a real testament to the strength and power which unites our nation with that of France. A real sense of empowerment was felt by all and it was a memorable moment to be part of.
Following this, the awards commenced, with emerging womenswear designer, emerging menswear designer and emerging accessory designer all being presented by Nick Grimshaw and Rosie Huntington Whiteley. The winner for these categories were Thomas Tait, Jordan Askill and Tom Ford respectively.
Karl Lagerfield went on to win the Outstanding Achievement award (presented by Anna Wintour) and Stella McCartney brand of the year (presented by Edina Monsoon and Patsy Stone). The real show-stealer however was JW Anderson, winning not just one, but two awards and being the first in the shows history to walk home with trophies for the two categories- Menswear Designer and Womenswear Designer.
Renowned for his unisex and androgynous approach to both men’s and women’s collections, Anderson first began his career as a menswear designer before expanding his creative talent to cater for both genders. His awards were presented by Orlando Bloom (menswear) and Noomi Rapace (womenswear.)
